A bibliometric analysis of 208 conference papers confirms a comprehensive discussion of constitutive concepts of human factors/ergonomics, such as human-centricity and interdisciplinarity. However, the analysis shows that a core concept is missing that exerts an integrative effect in work research and sharpens its professional external image. In addition, a gap was identified between opportunity- or resource-oriented and risk-oriented research focuses, which is here referred to as the „missing middle“ of work research.
